What is Junos Fusion?

Junos Fusion Overview

Junos Fusion is a technology running on Juniper platform which helps reduce network complexity and operational expenses by enabling multiple distributed devices to be managed as a single, logical device. In short, it combines multiple chassis hardware into single logical management.
There are 3 different architectures of Junos Fusion: Junos Fusion Provider Edge, Junos Fusion Data Center, and Junos Fusion Enterprise. Now you might ask what the different between them? Well, dont be rush…let understand its components first.

Junos Fusion Components

There are 2 main components of Junos Fusion architecture – Aggregation device and Satellite device.
  • Aggregation: serve as core of a Junos Fusion. We can have one ore more Aggregation devices within a single Junos Fusion. All the configuration will be managed by Aggregation device.
  • Satellite: it’s an access layer of a Junos Fusion, which are connected to and managed by Aggregation devices via uplinks.
Now let have a look at the difference architectures.

You might have another question about the difference between deployment mode. 😀
  • Port-Extended Mode: ports on Satellite devices are extended from Aggregation, all L2 and L3 decisions are processed on the Aggregation device.
  • Distributed Forwarding Mode: Satellite devices can forward packets from one port to another ports without going to Aggregation device to process.
